The weatherman has predicted a “Sunny” day for the St. Louis Parrot Head Club’s annual Beach Party on Saturday, July 9th.  That’s because we will have “Sunny Jim” White performing for us.   Sunny Jim will be flying in to St. Louis from his home in Florida just to play for us at the Beach Party this year.  He has recently moved to Florida from Grand Cayman Island where he spent several years perfecting his laid back attitude, his island style music and working on his tan.  He apparently got both the music and the tan right because he has been in great demand all over the Southeast ever since he moved back to Florida.  He has been performing at both the “Stars Fell on Alabama” Parrot Head gathering in Orange Beach Alabama and the official national convention of Buffett fans known as the “Meeting of the Minds” in Key West, Florida for a few years now and he is always one of the top acts where ever he goes.   And we are lucky enough to have coaxed him away from the sunshine and beaches of Gulf Coast Florida to join us for the oppressive heat and humidity of a St. Louis summer.  Of course we told him the weather here is just as nice as it is where he lives, but he won’t know the difference til it’s too late.  For those of you who might not have been fortunate enough to have heard “Sunny Jim” perform, you can listen to some of his songs at his website  www.sunnyjim.com  and you can also read a little bit about him before you come to meet him and listen to him play especially for us at the Beach Party.

Not only will we have the pleasure of enjoying “Sunny Jim” White at the Beach Party, but we have also coerced one of our own club members to be the opening act for the festivities.  The St. Louis Parrot Head Club’s very own “Partly Cloudy Jim” Lanier will playing and singing some of our favorite tropical type tunes while we enjoy a beautiful day at the beach.  Well, okay it’s Lake St. Louis, but it’s the closest we could come to a beach without having the party at Times Beach (and I don’t think any of us would want that).

The festivities will commence to begin to start at exactly sometime around noon on Saturday, July 9th.  Food will be served at 1:00.  The St. Louis Parrot Head Club will provide burgers and brats (and of course buns and mustard and other such condiments) and everyone is asked to bring an appropriate picnic type of dish or desert or something to share with all the folks who, hopefully, will be bringing something, too.  Then, everyone should be almost done eating by the time the music starts at 2:00.  How long the party continues into the evening depends entirely on how much fun we’re having.

And for those of you who have been to our Beach Parties in the past, we want to make sure you know that this year’s shindig will be at a different (much larger) pavilion than the one we used before.  To get to the new pavilion just take I-70 to the Lake St. Louis exit (exit #214).  If you are coming from the east once you have exited the highway take a left which will bring you back over the highway.  If you are coming from the west, just take a right after you exit I-70.  You will come to Veterans Memorial Highway (it runs parallel to I-70).  Turn right onto Veterans Memorial Highway and proceed a short distance until you see a strip-mall on your left (just between a

1st Bank and a hospital).  Pull into the strip mall and you should see Wharf St. going down toward the lake.  I am told we will need to park in the strip-mall parking lot and walk the short distance down to the pavilion.  If you get terribly lost, the party will be at the Windjammer Point Pavilion.  If you would prefer to get directions from Mapquest, or Yahoo Maps, or Google Maps, just set it to take you to Wharf St. in Lake St. Louis, Mo.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Ken Budzik at (314)  838-2246 or at kbud@earthlink.net

We hope to see a huge crowd that day, so if you are going to join us please RSVP to Ken Budzik so we know how much food to have on hand.

It won’t matter if it’s “Sunny” or “Partly Cloudy”, the St. Louis Parrot Head Club always has a good time getting together.  See you at the Beach!
