History of the Ramble

Greetings and welcome to the internet home of the Friday Ramble.

I’d love to say it started a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, but it didn’t.  It wasn’t even a dark and stormy night.  In reality it was a typical Friday afternoon a few years ago.  I was sitting in my government office at my government desk doing my government job.  In other words, I was completely bored.  Fridays were the worst, so to pass the time and give a (false) impression that I was actually doing something, I began sending out incredibly silly, nonsensical emails to some of my friends who, unlike me, were probably trying very hard to actually get some work done.  I began doing this every Friday, and because the subject matter changed so drastically from week to week, and seldom had any point, someone eventually referred to them as “Dennis’ Friday Ramblings”.  Since it was so appropriate the name stuck.  The Rambles went out so consistently that when I would occasionally miss a Friday I would receive emails and phone calls wanting to know where the Ramble was.  People began forwarding them to their friends and family members, and I, from time to time, received email addresses of those who wanted to be included in my Friday family.  This was, of course, very encouraging and I set about making sure I wrote something each week that I could send out to my readers on Friday.  Since I began all of this, I have gone from the job I was bored at into “early” retirement.  I was actually silly enough to think I was bored with retirement so I then took a job I was even more bored at.  I finally found a part time job instead.  For some ridiculous reason (lack of money) I left that job and took a succession of two full-time jobs, neither of which I could stand.  So I am back at the part-time job I had previously and am thoroughly enjoying it.  If nothing else, this succession of jobs has provided material for several of the Friday Rambles you will find on this site, so it wasn’t a total waste of time.
